Today at Middlesbrough council..

It was owned by Mandale Properties if I recall correctly, and sadly like many buildings them days, it wasn't listed, it should have been, that was certainly an error.

I’m involved now so why not! Also appears it wasn’t a listed building I was wrong. However the council were informed and did very little. If you believe Ray Mallon in this article

The scientific institute was a listed building I believe, however somehow they managed to knock that down.
I think it was in the days when Faulkner owned The Empire. Middlesbrough council were eager to gain ownership of the Empire with the aim of turning it back into a theatre. Faulkner said fine, I'll sell it, as long as I can have planning permission to turn he Scientific Institute into a club. Middlesbrough council turned down this request saying that there were already too many clubs in that area. This was clearly false as The Scientific Institute would have been smaller than the Empire and Jumping Jacks (the Odeon) had closed down.
Faulkner sold the SI on and the new owners demolished it.

Shame the Scientific Institute got knocked down. I remember going to a few events there when I was younger. Thought it was a decent little building. Had a bit of character.

Yeah was opposite from where I worked. One day it was there, the next it was gone. I have no love for the Mandale group that’s for sure. Had bad experiences with them in the past, and legal battles over what was the new flat at the time in Saltburn.

So I was right. Ask a Labour councillor what their alternative is and they don't answer.

What a bizarre post. When the Chancellor of the Exchequer stands at the despatch box and delivers their budget, which has been worked on for months by Treasury officials and the OBR, do you ask the Shadow Chancellor where their fully costed alternative budget is?

Budgets are, by law, prepared and presented for approval by administrations not the opposition.

Dear god 🤦‍♂️

Labour will still be subject to government spending restrictions but by May you’ll have no say

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
But we will put up a budget that is fair with the restrictions, we will own it, currently the Independents that run the council are refusing to own their own budget and are trying to blame Labour for it falling, it's their budget, they run the council, it's up to them to pass it, take responsibility for it, they have a majority.

That's how it works- with power comes responsibility, they need to own it.

BBG only moved back onto budgets after Lodger destroyed him in his response to BBG's accusation that Labour was responsible for building demolitions over the years.

Don't be silly. If you read the whole thread you will see that previously to that, I said that Labour never offer any alternatives to the cuts. Lodger rubbished that but then spent the rest of the thread avoiding giving an alternative. You conveniently didn't notice that.

Also I have highlighted the council's failure on one of those buildings, the Scientific Institute.

It's been pointed out to you countless times that Labour councillors do not set the budget, they only vote on it. So proposing alternative 'cuts' is pretty pointless.
Everyone knows you have an issue with Labour nationally and you're now hounding a local councillor trying to the best for his local area.
Have you ever thought about running for councillor yourself?

Abstaining in a vote is not a protest… it’s a begrudged acceptance as you are equally unable to provide a balanced budget

Voting against something is a true protest… regardless if you are on a hiding to nothing in a vote you can’t win. It shows conviction and goes down in the rolls as you standing up for something.

You have a captive audience here to promote your party and sing it’s praises… you are doing the opposite by not telling us what your party would do different to the current shower of $hit

In terms of this budget May is too late…. You want this town to vote for you purely on party politics lines… not based as it should be on what your party is going to do for this Town and its people.

Stop the games and stop dodging the question. No one is asking for a fully costed budget, but tell us.. your electorate what your party would do differently.

And for the record I am your perfect idea of a floating voter… it’s the likes of me that you should be going out of your way to impress.

Give me (and others on here) a reason to vote for you other than telling us the other guy is $hit

Headline for you… we already know!

So when I said that Labour councillors never offer alternatives and Lodger said absolute rubbish, he was clearly wrong?

I am fully aware of who sets the budget and who decides the cuts, but I also know that if one group disagrees with particular cuts then they can and should publish their alternatives for the voters to inform voters.
