Tory Members in Uxbridge must have good values

Scandals, cautions, lies and miscellaneous misdemeanors mean nothing to those who subscribe to the cult of personality.
Let's not forget his globetrotting speaking gig where he's lining his pockets and not actually doing his job as an MP.
He'll win of course.

Stockholm Syndrome alive and well in the Tory Party, Uxbridge I see.

FFS, as an MP he's (apparently) been next to useless, never showed his face, held surgeries.....done none of the "basics" an MP is expected to do. Just been grasping any and every opportunity to make £££££ rather than represent his constituents.

Yet......here we are. Let's hope the majority of the people of Uxbridge see sense......but doubt it.

He will lose the seat after he is found guilty of contempt of parliament. His questioning is next week after pmqs and is available to watch live.

Does that mean he is barred from standing again? If not, I don't think it will make much difference.

BJ's appeal seems to hinge on his creating the illusion that he's some sort of political outsider, rather than the latest off the Eton production line. To those that support him, being in contempt of parliament will enhance the perception that he's different from all the other politicians.

No he can stand as often as he wants.

In the triggered by election he will get trounced and leave politics altogether I expect.

Have you seen his approval ratings? They are in the toilet.

Yes, there was talk of parachuting him into a "safe" Tory seat as Uxbridge is very much a target for Labour regardless of who is the sitting MP. That isn't going to happen now and I reckon most of the party will be pleased to see the back of him.

Wonder if it could be a behind the scenes move to finally get rid of him. Keep him in a potential marginal seat, don't give him any backing there and hope he loses (badly) and ultimately has to walk away from the Conservatives......leaving them free of him and his cult (sp?) followers to rebuild the party.

🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Sunak wants shot of him, certainly. Not sure they will get the old tory party back until the erg are marginalised though.

To be fair to the members of Uxbridge, not sure it is their decision, isn’t it Party HQs who decide these type of things?

Pretty sure the local constituency has the final say.
Hopefully someone will dig around and find out
In theory this is right finny. Rightly or wrongly the parliamentary party can, and sometimes do overule the locals.

I think labour did this in the by-elections, which was, quite rightly, criticized.

I don't see this as getting over-ruled with him being the encumbent.

He's as likely to get elected as any other candidate they could put forward in that seat. Not saying he's winning it, but he'll have trousered another 15-20 million by the time of the election.

I’d look at this a bit more cynically than the way the media (and some posters on here are reporting it).

The Uxbridge Conservative Association will have asked BJ to confirm whether he still wishes to stand as their candidate at the next election. For some reason, BJ has chosen now as the time to give that confirmation.

In completely unrelated news, next week BJ is giving evidence to the Privileges Committee about whether he misled Parliament. As others have said, their report might result in his suspension from Parliament, a recall petition and possible by-election.

Depending on how damning the findings of the Privileges Committee are, there may have been some push to deselect him by Uxbridge Conservative members. BJ has now avoided such action by being confirmed as their candidate at the next election (not necessarily a General Election).

Were he to win any by-election, during which there would be concerted and sustained pressure by opposition parties to unseat him, BJ would no doubt take that as a strong signal that he would also win at a General Election. Were he to lose, he would be free to seek the nomination for Nadine Dorries’ safe seat (who confirmed last month that she will be standing down at the next election).

Yeah, don't disagree with any of that and if I was an opposition campaigner, I'd love to go after Johnson right now.

If you're his opponent the least you can say is at least I'm not going to be earning literally millions of pounds instead of being your MP.

If there is a bi election I would hope (?) opposition parties would together and offer up just one credible alternative.
That would be fun

Do not underestimate the ability of tories to hold their noses and vote for vile candidates and defend them….reason being is vot Tory forms a large part of their identity as a person.
Take that away and they become mentally and psychologically fragile believe it or not….
