Violent conduct

That's a shame. That player who was on their i-follow commentary stream, will be crying again tonight. He was adamant that it wasn't a sending off.

As he wanted to inform us of his toilet action at H/T last night, he can use the FA report next time he goes to wipe his bum.

Strictly speaking by the letter of the law and interpretation rule it wasn’t a red. The ref should have yellow carded him for throwing the ball at an opponent. Excessive force would have turned it to a red but to be honest intent rather than actual force was enough and I have little beef with it.

Excessive means more than necessary. The action wasn’t needed at all, so no force was necessary, therefore any force at all was excessive.

I think a yellow would have been a better choice.
I understand the rules say red.
But a bit of common sense needs to be applied.
No harm done but if you do anything like that again your off.
Now let's play football.

There is currently a massive campaign surrounding the long term effects on the brain that heading the ball in football has. This has been taken seriously by the football authorities to the extent that there have been strict limitations of heading the ball by players in training. To throw a ball at the back another players head, regardless of how hard and presumably to provoke a reaction given the current climate is stupid to the extreme.

but additionally 'acting in a provocative or inflammatory manner' is also a sending off offence so totally deserved to go.
I mean, Emi Martinez would have been sent off about 7 times during the WCF penalty shootout alone.

If they actually policed this stuff, along with the foul and abusive language law, you’d have 10 players off before half time. Can see the purpose of the rule but it’s a bit daft really.

there's throwing the ball at an opponent and there's throwing the ball at the back of an opponents head, two very different offences maybe even though I've seen red given for both.

Why did Buckley do it?

If I were Blackburn I would hit him hard for lack of professionalism.

It’s the sort of thing you see on a school playing field in a kickabout.
So, good question. On the itv football highlights show they spotted why and showed it in slow motion.
Mcgree walked past Buckley and cheekily gave him a little elbow in the back.
Buckley feels it and reacted …. Var might of given Mcgree a yellow card for his part but still a red for Buckley

If Mcgree had turned around at the last moment he’d of took it in the face and potentially a broken nose. Then what ?

he'd have collapsed to the ground, in a mighty death roll, as footballers do. there would no doubt have to be a melee, & some handbags would appear. and the ref would be tricked into brandishing a red! don't you love football.

the older I get, the harder I find it to watch, and the more appealing cricket becomes......

What ? And enjoying watching all those excessive Aussie in your face umpire appeals ? Really ?

Look, like I say, had Mcgree turned around at the right moment he’d take it in the face. It was stupid and he got what he deserved.

we'll agree to disagree. for me, in an ideal world, it would be no card, a jovial chat with the ref, maybe a handshake, god forbid a laugh.... and game on

but I accept I'm living in dreamworld
