Who could really blame Wilder if he walked?

If he walked because we hadn't been able to sign Frank The Tank (Brentford injury scuppered that) and Larsen (Celta Vigo met his club's valuation and we didn't) he would go down in my estimation, if he's offered a better job then so be it. He's been able to sign three forwards, three defenders, an experienced midfielder, a wing back and two keepers..

Good job some of you weren't around in 1986 when we had 13 players.

The noises coming out throughout this window from Wilder, right to the end, were how short we are and how we need those final vital pieces of the jigsaw, whether that was to put pressure on the recruitment team or remove pressure from himself if he fails to deliver, maybe a bit of both but he still arguably has his own team now, despite the inactivity in final days, so this is where he now needs to show his metal.

It takes two sides to do business, not one. You can't sign players that a club doesn't want to sell or players who don't want to come here.

It doesn't matter who says what, and more fool those who take so much notice of what's been said in order to sell tickets.
That’s why you need a bloody big list of prospects. We seemed to major and waste time on a fair number of targets instead of moving on earlier than we did

Why do we have an Under 23 team? Is it not to develop some of them into first team players. Is Wilder not interested in development? Not many seem to make the step up. Hackney and Gibson are both midfielders aren’t they and have been in and around the squad?

They will get their chance this season - through necessity

This thread is another thing that annoys me about 'modern football', let's all have a moan when we lose (too often this season); that we picked the wrong team or played the wrong formation or the players aren't good enough, but when we don't sign a player? As a great man once said 'It is what it is'!

In 1986, you were only allowed to make 1 substitution.

We were also on the back of narrowly escaping the club going out of existence.

Not a comparable situation at all.

And to accept mediocrity without challenging gets you nowhere

He needs to prove his worth as well he has hardly been a major success so far. How often do managers get exactly what they want. He seems like a bloke who has a massive opinion of himself and his team so let's see what he's got.

If he does go i wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I think he will honour his contract and get on with the job. The only pressure he will get is from people who expect a team to get promoted, playing a high tempo game with only 4 midfielders. Unrealistic goal. If the club has not seen yet another imbalance in the squad and done nothing about the midfield then I hope to see Hackney and Boyd-Munce utilised rather than Mcnair in midfield. For one, it disrupts the back line and two, when Mcnair is in midfield it is like watching Namanja Matic on valium. I am deflated as a fan, but I hope Wilder is a better man than me and embraces the challenge.

How do you know we are accepting mediocrity? If we don't perform, and we haven't so far in our seven games, and if we are in the same position in October, then perhaps I'll have a moan. However, the squad we have should be good enough to challenge for the play offs imho. If we don't then we should challenge the players we have to perform better?

We haven't a clue what has been going on behind the scenes regarding transfers.

We were unlucky with Frank the Tank - can't pin that on the club.

Clubs knew we had money to spend so assume they are asking top whack assuming we would pay out of desperation. We (thankfully) didn't.

Greedy agents asking too much for their players.

Players simply not fancying it.

Players saying maybe, then get a better offer.

Getting gazumped.

Million and one reasons the players haven't come in. Generally a quiet day for most clubs, which shows how difficult the last few days were. I'm really p*ssed off we couldn't get CMs in, and in this respect this has been the failure of the transfer window. Best part of 3 months and we are looking very, very weak in this critical area.

Now, look to free agents.......but these players are generally free agents for a reason so you are pretty much getting towards the bottom of the barrel unless you hit really lucky.

Disappointing. Frustrating. Annoying. Predictable. But not the end of the world. Players and manager need to step up and REALLY show how much they want it. Starting Monday against the mackems........👍

We shouldn't have been targeting a loan signing to compete with a 34 year old who's out of contract in the summer in the first place.

We should have been making a permanent signing with a view to replacing him.

We especially shouldn't have been leaving it until the last few days of the window to try and sort.

None of us know what conversations Wilder has had with Gibson, Scott, Bausor or what has gone on behind the scenes.

If he was promised a central midfielder, I think he has every right to be annoyed.

If however, the situation was "were hoping to bring in this guy, but he might not be available. This is plan B and C and D. Do you want any of these guys or would you rather just go with what you've got?" Then that's a different matter.

Personally I'd have been looking at a relatively experienced DM from league 1 if all else failed so we have cover if nothing else. But maybe Wilder thought that they'd have been no better than Boyd-Munce or one of the kids. In which case, what would've been the point?

Wonder if he'll shed any light on it in the presser.
