Wilder

I was livid at the treatment of fry but there were plenty on here going on with wilders narrative that he wasn't a good enough footballer and should be offloaded. What utter nonsense that's proved
I agree I was defending him as well wilder was clearly forcing him out

Despite him being arguably the best defender in this league

Fry would have been out

Chuba would have been out

Hackney would have been out (to a League 1/2 side)

And if Wilder had his way we'd have been stuck with Mcgoldrick, Gayle and Greaves on best part of £60-80k week combined 😬😬😬

Sounds like a plan

Seeing the way he absolutely destroyed Frys confidence at Reading away was the final straw for me. I had never warmed to Wilder, I'll admit that, but the way the berated Fry and sapped every ounce of confidence out of him before subbing him at half time was disgraceful management.
He seemed to have it in for local lads didn't he?

I gave Wilder every opportunity but always felt there was something about him that I couldn't put a finger on and mentioned it on here on several occasions.

Regarding Fry, you don't become a bad footballer overnight and I always felt he would make a good partnership with Lenihan.

He still has his limits, he wasn't and still isn't capable of playing as a right sided overlapping CB.

Both Boro and West Brom were massive underachievers until they both changed managers. Will be interesting to see if we can both keep our ’expected’ form up for the rest of the season and make the playoffs or have an inevitable dip. Was definitely not working under wilder

In hindsight it was just a bizarre tenure. I think he had a chip on his shoulder from day one, probably a bit bitter a prem side hadn't come calling and so felt he deserved a better job, but we were the best he could get.

Definitely a man who believed his own hype and who seemed to have forgotten what he did to achieve success at his previous clubs. I doubt he was throwing toys out of the pram and demanding certain players at Northampton Town or Halifax.

Weirdly I'm sure at one of his earlier pressers he insisted he wasn't just about playing one way and was at pains to point out he'd used other systems with success in his career. That he wasn't a one trick pony.

Then goes onto be stubborn to the point it was getting weird about playing nothing but his 3 at the back system, even when it was obvious to everyone, including the tea lady we didn't have the players for it.

I'd be surprised if he gets a bigger job than us next. Loads of red flags if anyone does their homework. But stranger things have happened.

Made me look a right mug. Was gutted when he went. I know even less about association football than I thought.

I never liked his accent 🙂
He's a 'dee-da'. Some lads I worked with from Barnsley explained that they referred to people from Sheffield as 'dee-das' because their pronunciation of thee and tha was more like dee and da. When Barnsley were playing either United or Wednesday if the Sheffield physio had to come on to an injured player the Barnsley crowd would sing dee-da-dee-da-dee-da.......... as he ran on the pitch.😄

He was a one trick pony, and to enable his 'trick' to work he needed to have the right player for each role within the team.

Matt Clarke was never going to be effective playing as an overlapping centre halve, but instead of persisting with it he should have recognised that we didn't have the players suitable for his system, and switched to a back 4.

You can then get to January at least and then look again for a better option for the LCB position, if he still had plans for us to set up with that system long-term, but he was too stubborn to think like that and in the end I don't think even he himself believed in the system. He was probably more scared of the thought of changing the formation, and results and performances improving, meaning he'd have been proven wrong.
