Mackem Delusion

It's a pedantic and semantic point that you are making though. When football fans talk to other football fans about the difference a new manager has made, they don't talk about the week on the training pitch, they talk about that first match. That's because they can't influence results without crossing the white line for the first competitive match.

So now we have clarified this point. Since Michael Carrick's first match in charge, no team has scored more points than Boro in the English Football League Championship. That is factually correct, impressive, and a good barometer of being talked about as the best side in the championship right now.....I'd still say it's Burnley, but, I'd argue that the gap is small and if we played them now, it would be a very tight game, much more than when they beat us at their ground.
It is pedantic but I gave an answer to the opening poster’s question then he jumped in to the debate with his clown shoes on so I went fishing🤷

Reasons we believe

Had a read of the boro match thread from last night on ready to go, a lot think Sunderland are better than us and will finish ahead of us, where does this delusion come from? Is it because they beat us once? @Hoolio can you answer this one because I’m confused where it hails from?
I read this last night as well, and it’s incredible how many of them clearly think that they are beyond the Championship, and that it’s just an average league full of average plodders and journeyman. They say this same stuff after every game.

They just can’t bring themselves to praise anyone but themselves. I had a read of the same thread but in the Burnley forum and it’s polar opposite, very complimentary.

Sick of pointing out since Carrick joined Burnley have amassed 40 points
How dumb do you really need to be, Burnley have just come down from a protracted stay in the PL with the financial rewards it brings together with parachute payments - they continue to operate financially as a PL club.

What were Boro's points per game under Wilder, what are the PPG under Carrick.

If we extrapolate the PPG under Carrick across the games played this season where would we be?

Just as an example we were woeful against SU at home. Just winning that game alone would make a massive skew to the table....

The OP was about how deluded they are on RTG, while the wider makem fan base no doubt will have two feet planted firmly on the ground, the simple fact is a large percentage of poster on RTG are totally deluded. You cannot read the posts on there and not come to that conclusion.

Here is the thing. Back in the 70s there was a real genuine hatred between both sets of fans. Football violence was at the heart of it, doesn't matter what you think of football violence, back then it was a fact and some of the worst violence I ever witnessed was between Boro and the makems.

Fast-forward to this century and it is all change. Most on here seem to actually have a soft spot for them. They on the other hand choose to pretend we don't exist, but I'll guarantee you this, their casual approach to our existence stems 100% from being inferior for the past 30 years. It is difficult to acknowledge a rivalry if you spend all your time in the league below your one time rival. It's a comfort blanket.

Everything about that board is a charade. Their views about us, the teams in this league, their being a Prem team in all but actually being in the Prem, their ******** of a stadium which is one of the best in the country, their history which nobody alive can remember. And they talk about the mags being deluded, a delusion in itself.

Another thing they won't admit is that commercially Boro are competitive with Sunderland despite the fan base coming from a much smaller area.

Ergo we get more fans per capita from our fan base and our fans are happy to pay more to support their club.
