An interesting list of ages there.

It is organised far-right violence. I visited a friend on Saturday who is a BBC News producer that was sent to Southport to cover the peaceful vigil. When the trouble started, the media were also being targeted, with the locations of specific news teams being shared by use of What Three Words (gives geolocations to within a metre of the location) on WhatsApp by group leaders riling the crowds. There was footage of Paul Brand being pursued and intimidated down the street.

I see a load of right wing idiots on twitter coming out with it’s all Starmer’s fault etc.

The right really do recruit from a thick demographic.

In their minds I'm sure this is Starmer's fault. He has provoked them by winning the election.

These events are partly a reaction to the election result; in the same way as Trump's mob storming the capitol, this is a rejection of democracy from the losing side.

Quite a lot of them appear to be bots I think.
Quite possibly mate.

Absolutely this, it still upsets me that they’ve used those poor kids as an excuse to terrorise our towns and cities.

Sky and AFP had to stand down their reporters in Boro yesterday as they were been targeted

What can we do to help those who may suffer financial difficulties as a result of being targeted?

Thinking households who may have had homes trashed but are uninsured/underinsured.

We could do a Go Fund Me or something but unsure how we would identify and verify those who need help 🤷‍♂️

Could local businesses (e.g glazers) sign up and we direct money through them to subsidise costs of refitting windows etc?

A fund is being set up - Sahida will be sending me details this afternoon and this will be a way the whole Boro supporting community can really help rebuild.

I wonder how much appetite there'd be for benefit recipients having to do community work as part of them getting money?
There must be loads of stuff that they could do which would go some way into installing a sense of community responsibility in them as it's clearly lacking in a large portion of the population.
It doesn't have to be slave labour either as there's already loads of volunteers doing things like litter picking etc and that sense of community and pride in where they live is the main driver of their efforts.
Some of the scenes we've seen over the past week clearly show that respect is a foreign word to many.
