If Wilder could have got/kept the players he wanted for the system he wanted to play he'd have done well. But that's not realistic for a Championship side without parachute payments, especially since covid.
Our real strength is our academy when it comes to plugging the gaps when we can't afford/attract the right player for a particular role. It's so frustrating that despite Wilder knowing that Fry, Jones, Coburn, Tav and Spence were all products of the academy - and all either successfully performing in his side or for other sides - he overlooked it completely when building his squad for this season. You've got to wonder whether Jones or Coburn would have been anywhere near the squad if Wilder had come in before they broke into the side.
I'm glad as have a manager now who is more focused on what we have rather than always worrying about what we don't have!
