Racism.

A question for ST, Rob, Jam, CtC. And the others who have said either all or most Brexiteers are racist. Let's be brutal, does that include:
Me
My wife who taught in a mainly Muslim school and asked to go to the mosque to thank her.
My sister in law, a heart nurse who has been part of saving 1000's of life's. I don't think she refused non whites.
My brother who runs a charity, I think Rob knows him, a multi cultural charity helping people get over an illness.
My son's.
Two lads who Clean the streets,
Somewhere there us between 8m and 17m racists based on your criteria.

I find what you say about my family frankly I think it is disgusting.
You’ve got it the wrong way round. We believe most racists are brexiteers and racism was definitely used as a strategy by vote leave. Why do you think to this day we are still celebrating reducing freedom of movement. The most bigoted of all policies is the most revered part of Brexit

ST, are you still saying all?

If so when you go to hospital, which I hope you don't. Are you going to ask them if they voted Brexit'?

So wh
So which is it? Most , all ....?

You are still saying an element of my family are racist. Disgusting.
Are you on a wind up or being deliberately obtuse? I can't believe a thread about young England players being racially abused has spun round to a 'woe is me you're calling my family racists' agenda when nobody has said anything of the sort. Grow up, read what has been written. If you can't accept that the people who voted for Brexit are broadly more right wing and xenophobic than remainers I have no hope for you. Nobody is saying a nurse you know does monkey chants and throws bananas at people. What people are saying is the people that did that in the eighties will be nailed on Brexit voters from all the anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim stuff that is drip fed to them on a daily basis on social and main stream media.

I think you are all cowards, name these racists.

Having a go at an invisible grouping is pathetic

For 6 years you have been calling millions of people racist. I give you a list of people who voted Brexit'. Is it coincident that non happen to be a racist. So in the list I gave 100% are not racists

Almost all racists are brexiteers yes. I would be amazed to find one that wasn’t.
Don’t pretend you don’t understand the difference between the phrase “all brexiteers are racists” and “all racists are brexiteers”. Even if you do, @Adi_Dem has explained it to you

Let us know when you would like to be reintroduced to the plot.

To say all racist voted to leave the EU is a bit simplistic. If you read any decent academic studies of racism or prejudiciam participants are generally placed in groups based on unconscious and conscious prejudicial behaviour.

Those who score low on both scores only account for about 26.5% of participants. The rest is made up of people who have some level of prejudicial behaviour.

Clearly some of the remaining 3 groups voted to remain in the eu.

Not all racists voted to leave the EU.

It is interesting that 2 of the 4 groups accounted for about half the population. These are the people we would call out as racists.

The second group, those that scored very low on conscious prejudice but high on unconscious prejudice was the single biggest group at 30%

Most studies show very similar trends.

You can read one here https://www.nature.com/articles/s41599-018-0214-5

Racism is much more complex than most of us suspect.

Rubbish, what England players received is disgusting.

What I am having a go at is the premise. Over 5 years on here , that millions of people are racist, all because they voted Brexit'.

If we are not careful I will go running to Rob and say I am being bullied.

I think 99.9 % of Brexiteers voted leave after going through the figures and after careful study realised the country would be financially better off, stands to reason doesn't it.
There will be no downturn in the economy or job losses.

Why did you vote out ?

Two studies have relatively recently asked the same two questions to estimate the degree of biological racist in the UK. The first question: are some races born less intelligent than others. This would be widely recognised as a racist statement and 18 and 19% pf people believed this in the two polls. The second question: are some races born harder working than other races. This is less blatant but 38% and 44% thought this in the two polls. Whether you go with the lower or higher figure, a substantial minority of people in the UK subscribe to some form of racist belief.
If I was to ask you which race can do the 100 metres fastest would that be racist? Polls are full of BS, I tell them anything.

I'd agree with the "racists overwhelmingly voted for Brexit" assertion, but not "all Brexit voters are racist", which I note no one has actually made.

Sadly, I think the racists did subscribe to the view that all Brexiteers were racist, that they themselves now spoke for a majority, and that it was somehow ok to be racist post-referendum.

I think there's plenty of evidence that hate crime spiked post-referendum as the racists became emboldened; anecdotally, an Asian friend of mine, born and raised in Boro, was told that she'd have to go back where she came from in the days following the vote.

It's history now of course; the question is, what do we do going forward? We've probably reached the point where silence and indifference isn't enough: if you're not actively against racism, you are tacitly accepting of it.

In the cold light of day, if you align with ultra right wing people like Farage or Tommy R, Nick Griffin it was always going to be a difficult explanation.

Read the report I linked to sab. It gives a balanced view. In truth I would suggest we all read it or do our own research.

It may help to understand how complex a subject it is.

BTW SAB I agree with the point you are making.

Thought I'd help out as a neutral and unmuddy the waters. Here is everything SmallTown posted on this thread before Same_as_before accused him of saying that his family were racist because they voted leave:

"It’s seems to be getting stronger doesn’t it. There is no question things like Brexit and our own prime minister who is racist himself have helped embolden the racists. Allowed them to speak up."

"Yes"

I believe the case is now closed?

I have already read those reports. In fact one benefit to this whole thing is that I have done my very best to understand as much as I can about racism and its effects from a range of sources. I stand by the rule of thumb that I have explained above. Of course it is over simplified and there is always nuance. But broadly (as with most rules of thumb) it is a reliable barometer.
